This photo was taken at an artist's village on the outskirts of Nice, France in 1998. I am with my friend Joel who lives in Nice.
I grew up in the greater Seattle area - in the small town of Marysville, then best known as the "Strawberry Capital of the World". Marysville was a great place to roll in the sweet-smelling grass while watching the clouds, or sit up in a leafy tree transported to a new world in the pages of a book. My world expanded a lot when I spent a year in Hiroshima, Japan as a high school exchange student. The strong desire for peace evidenced there has had a lasting influence in my life and pursuits. I started universiy life pursuing music, but after a six-month stay in Paris, I was drawn towards international pursuits. I went to Hokkaido, Japan for a year, and finally graduated with a degree in International Relations. I spent the summer after graduation interning at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, DC. Catching "Potomac Fever", I began working for a Japanese-owned biotechnology start-up in the area. After moving around with them, passing back through Seattle to live agian, I moved to San Francisco. After many great years of being educated in a big corporate atmosphere, I struck out on my own, and started a consulting company specializing in new business development and strategic planning. I've also been enjoying the San Francisco Bay area and its many opportunities to enjoy life!
